Home Bound Instruction Services

The Home Tutoring program was established to provide in-home tutors to those students who have been diagnosed by their physician(s) as unable to attend school. Under the guidance of the students’ assignee teachers, the home tutor provides instruction in the basic courses in which the students are enrolled in their home school. The Erie School District reserves the right to request that students being home tutored be examined by the school physician to remain on home tutoring.

The student (or parent/guardian) applies for the Home Tutoring Program through the appropriate school official, usually a principal or counselor. A Home Tutoring Recommendation Form must be completed with the student’s classes, teacher’s names, and classroom numbers. This form is then presented to the student’s physician or psychiatrist who indicates the reason for the need for tutoring.

The Home Tutor meets with the student to determine the educational status of the student and meets with the student several times per week, for approximately one hour per day, to instruct the student and to assign and collect schoolwork in all subjects. Regular education students receive a total of three (3) hours per week, and special education students receive a total of five (5) hours per week.
